This unofficial DLS target calculator estimates a revised chase when Team 1 completed an uninterrupted innings and Team 2 loses whole overs before batting. It uses the published Standard Edition resource percentages, not the current professional calculator. The output is for club and casual reference, never an official match decision.

What is the shortened chase target?

Enter Team 1’s final score, the original whole-over quota, and Team 2’s reduced whole-over allocation. This narrow calculator estimates the new target only when the first innings was uninterrupted and the delay occurs before the chase begins.

How is this shortened chase target estimated?

The Standard Edition assigns a resource percentage to each whole-over allocation. When Team 2 starts with fewer resources than Team 1 had, the first-innings score is multiplied by Team 2’s resource share divided by Team 1’s share. The decimal is discarded and one run is added to set the winning target.

Target = floor(Team 1 score × Team 2 resource ÷ Team 1 resource) + 1

  1. Identify Team 1 resources: Use the starting resource for the original whole-over quota.
  2. Identify Team 2 resources: Use the starting resource for the reduced whole-over chase.
  3. Scale and add one: Round the scaled score down, then add one run for the winning target.

ICC’s published example starts with 212 runs from an uninterrupted 45-over innings. Team 1 had 95.0% resource and a delayed Team 2 receives 35 overs, worth 82.7%. Floor(212 × 82.7 ÷ 95.0) + 1 gives a revised target of 185 runs.

When should this DLS approximation not be used?

Do not use this approximation when either innings was interrupted after it began, when a change happens mid-over, or when wickets already lost affect remaining resources. It also must not decide an official match. Those cases require the current authorised calculator, exact interruption details, and the competition’s playing conditions.

The ICC states that the current Stern Edition calculator should be used for matches and describes the older Standard Edition as a backup method. This page deliberately supports only one verifiable whole-over case and displays only the computed target. It does not reproduce the full resource table or claim ICC endorsement.

Why does the target add one run?

The scaled figure is the par score. Team 2 needs one more run than par to win.

Can I enter partial overs?

No. This limited implementation uses the published over-by-over case and accepts whole-over allocations only.

Should this result decide a club match?

Only if the competition has explicitly adopted this method and an authorised official verifies it. Otherwise treat it as an estimate.
