Save a match forever
At full time, open the scorer's Settings tab, sign in with Google if you have not already, pick which side you are on, your team, Both teams if you are one group playing among yourselves, or Neither team if you scored for others, and tap Save. The link you shared then keeps working for good at the same address, instead of expiring 30 days after its last update.
In short
- Finish the matchOnly a finished match can be saved, so nothing half-played ends up somewhere permanent.
- Open the Settings tabOn the scoring page, open Settings. At full time a card there offers to save the match.
- Sign in with GoogleNot signed in? Tap Sign in to save it, then Continue with Google, and you come straight back.
- Say which sideYour team, Both teams or Neither team. Each answer says where the match goes.
- Tap SaveThe link already in the group chat now shows the final score for good, at the same address.
- Find it under SavedYour account page lists it on the Matches tab, under the Saved filter.
Why a match link expires
A match on Score My Match needs no account, and that is the point: two team names and you are scoring. The price of nobody signing up is that nobody owns the match, so it lives for 30 days after its last update and then it is gone, along with the page behind every link you sent.
Most matches are fine with that. A Sunday kickabout was worth following on Sunday. Saving is for the ones worth coming back to: a final, a first win, a result the group will want to look up next season.
Save it
Finish the match
Only a finished match can be saved, so nothing half-played ends up somewhere permanent.
Open the Settings tab
On the scoring page, open Settings. At full time a card offers to save the match. Not signed in? Tap your answer anyway and the card explains the sign-in: tap Sign in to save it, choose Continue with Google, and you come straight back to the card.
Say which side you are on
The card asks Which side are you on? and each answer says what it does. Pick your team if you play for one of them, Both teams if you are friends who split into two sides (name the group once), or Neither team if you were the organiser, the referee or a neutral parent. Then tap Save.
Your team's matches are kept under the name it was scored under, so there is nothing to type: the line under your team says where the match goes. Once your team has a club page, a match saved for it goes straight onto that page. A practice game saved for both teams under your team's name joins the same matches, marked as practice and left out of the record.
Carry on sharing
The address does not change. Every link already in a group chat now shows the final score for good.
Why it works this way
Why ask which side you are on? The match belongs to both teams, so the question is which one you are saving it for. It is how your matches are grouped on your account page, so a team's results collect in one place with nothing typed. Tapped the wrong one? Open the match's Saved button on your account page and pick again.
Why it works this way
Why only on the scorer's phone? Saving asks for two things: the scoring password, which proves this phone scored the match, and a sign-in, which says who is responsible for it. A viewer who opened the link has neither, so nobody can save a match that was not theirs.
After you save it
Your saved matches are listed on your account page, from the account button at the top: the Matches tab, with the Saved filter. A saved match wears a bookmark in its side's colour and says who it was saved for; one that is not saved shows a bar draining over its 30 days. The same tab also offers to save finished matches this phone scored before you signed in, one at a time, because each one asks whose match it was.
A saved match is the final record. Corrections are made while it is live and during its 30 days, so check the score before you walk off the pitch.
Saved matches are also what a club page is built from, if your team wants a page of its own.
Questions people ask
About save a match forever.
Does saving a match cost anything?
No. Saving is free, with no limit on how many matches you save. It needs a sign-in so the match has somebody to belong to, and nothing else.
Who can save a match?
Only somebody on a phone that holds the scoring password, and only once the match has finished. A viewer who opened the link cannot save it, signed in or not.
Do people need a new link?
No. The saved match stays at the exact address you already sent, so every message in the group chat keeps working.
Where do I find the matches I saved?
On your account page, from the account button at the top: the Matches tab, with the Saved filter. It lists every match your account saved, from any device.
Can I still change a saved match?
Corrections are made while the match is live and for its 30 days. After that a saved match is the final record.
