Line-ups: paste a WhatsApp list, or let players add themselves
Open the Line-up tab, tap Add line-up and paste the list from your group chat, and the numbers, ticks and repeats are cleaned up for you. Or send the player link, let players add their own names and approve each one, and either way the names become chips you tap instead of typing when you name a scorer, a batter or a bowler.
In short
- Open the Line-up tabOn the scoring page, open Line-up and tap Add line-up.
- Paste the group listOne name per line, commas or a numbered list. Numbers, ticks and repeats are removed.
- Do the other sideA player can only be on one side, so a name added to one team comes off the other.
- Or send a player linkTap Get a player link. Players add their own names, and you approve each one.
- Close it when doneTap Close link. Opening it again brings back the link already in the group chat.
- Tap names while scoringAfter a goal, or naming a batter or a bowler, the line-up is offered as chips. One tap names them.
Paste a list
Open the Line-up tab
On the scoring page, open Line-up and tap Add line-up.
Paste the list
Copy the list from your group chat and paste it into a team's box. One name per line, commas, or a numbered list flattened onto one line all work. Numbers, ticks and repeats are removed; a name is kept exactly as it was typed, so delete anything that is not a name.
Do the same for the other side
A player can only be on one side, so a name added to one team comes off the other.
Or let players add themselves
Send the player link
On the Line-up tab, tap Get a player link and send it to your group. It is a different link from the one viewers have.
Approve each name
A player who opens it picks their team and types their name. Nothing appears on the match until you approve it on the Line-up tab.
Close it when you are done
Tap Close link. Opening it again later brings the same link back, so the one already in the group chat works again.
Why it works this way
Why does the scorer approve every name? A match link goes to a whole group of spectators, and a list anyone can write to is a list somebody will spoil. The player link can only ask.
While you score
After a goal, a row under the score buttons offers the line-up as chips, with this match's names first, and the sheet that names a batter or a bowler offers the same chips. One tap names the player, and after a goal nothing waits for an answer: the next tap on the score moves on.
A sub who was not on the list can be typed as normal. The Line-up tab then offers to add them afterwards, at a calm moment, rather than asking in the middle of the game. Play again with the same teams and each side's line-up comes with them.
Questions people ask
About line-ups from a whatsapp list.
Do I have to add a line-up?
No. It is optional and never needed to score. It makes scoring faster, because a scorer's name is one tap instead of typing.
Can players change the score through the player link?
No. The player link only lets somebody ask to add their name. It never touches the match, and nothing appears until the scorer approves it.
What about a sub who was not on the list?
Type their name when they score. The Line-up tab then offers to add them, at a calm moment, rather than asking in the middle of the game.
Do I retype it for the next game?
No. Play again with the same teams and each side's latest line-up comes with them.
