Make a match reel for a team or a player

Tap Make a reel in the share card on the match page. Choose whose reel it is, a team or a player, or leave it as the whole match, and the reel is cut from the key moments, lit in that side’s colours and exported as a short video.

One question first

Whose reel is this?

A reel is a short video of a match, cut from its key moments. The one question the studio asks is whose reel it is: the whole match, one team, or one player. That one tap decides which moments lead, which colour lights the frame and who is named at the end.

Every player on the line-up is offered, not only the ones who scored. A reel for the left-back is exactly what this is for.

From the share card

Make it

  1. Open the studio

On the match page, tap Make a reel in the share card.

  2. Choose whose reel it is

Under Whose reel is this?, tap Everyone for the whole match, Whole team for one side, or one of that team's players.

  3. Change what it shows, if you like

The reel picks its moments for you, so this step is optional. Open Moments to turn a moment on or off, change what it says or put a photo behind it. Match photos holds your own photos for the cover and the closing montage, up to six in all. Screens lists everything the reel plays, so you can turn off one you do not want.

  4. Share or save it

Tap Share or save reel. The video is made on your phone and shared like any other. A browser that cannot make videos gets an image of the reel instead; Chrome or Safari on a phone makes the full reel.

Why it works this way

Why no music, fonts or templates? Every difference between two reels comes from something true about the match. That is why a reel never needs designing, and why it never says anything about the match that did not happen.

How it is worded

Never unkind to its own side

A reel describes the kind of game it was, a comeback, a late winner, a chase run down, from everything that happened. A reel made for the side that lost never describes the defeat at them: it shows the plain result instead. Choosing a team or a player changes what is shown and never the score, the result or who won.

Need to know

Questions people ask

About make a match reel.

Whose reel should I choose?

Whoever it is for. Pick a team and its moments lead; pick a player and theirs do. Leave it and you get the whole match.

Can I pick the music or the font?

No. Every difference in a reel comes from something true about the match, so there is nothing to style and nothing to get wrong.

Can I change the order of the moments?

No. A reel always runs in match order, so a goal can never play before the kickoff it followed. You choose which moments are in it, not where they go.

Will a reel make fun of my team for losing?

No. A reel never describes a defeat to the side it was made for. It falls back to the plain result instead.

Does it change the score or the result?

Never. Choosing a team or a player changes which moments are shown, not what happened.
