How to score a football match live on your phone

Create the match with the two team names, tap Start Match at kickoff and tap Goal under the side that scored. The score updates for everyone following the link straight away, and the scorer's name is asked for afterwards in a row you can simply ignore, so you never miss the next goal typing.

6 steps

In short

  1. Create the matchType the two team names and pick 5, 7 or 11-a-side.
  2. Send the linkTap Send on WhatsApp before kickoff, so the group is already watching.
  3. Start at kickoffTap Start Match when the referee blows. The clock runs from that tap.
  4. Tap Goal for each goalThe score moves at once. Name the scorer afterwards, or skip it.
  5. Undo a mistakeUndo removes the newest event and the score is worked out again.
  6. End each half yourselfNothing ends on its own. Your phone beeps and vibrates when time is up.
Two minutes

Before kickoff

  1. Create the match

Open Create match and type the two team names. Pick the format: 5-a-side runs 45 minutes, 7-a-side 60 and 11-a-side 90. Colours are chosen for you, and one tap changes them.

  2. Set a scoring password

It is kept on your phone and only a scorer needs it. The link you share with everyone else is read-only, so nobody watching can change the score.

  3. Send the link

Tap Send on WhatsApp on the Score tab before the game, so the group is already watching at kickoff.

  4. Kick off

Tap Start Match when the referee blows. The clock starts from that tap, on your phone and on every phone following along.

One tap per goal

During the game

Under each team's name there is a big Goal button, with Yellow and Red beside it. One tap is the whole recording: the score moves before anything else happens.

Then a row under the buttons asks who scored, with the team's names as chips to tap. Once there is a name it offers an assist. Nothing waits for an answer: tap the next event and the row moves on, because the next goal matters more than the last one's details. More opens a sheet to type a name or mark a penalty or an own goal.

Tip

Tapped the wrong side? Undo removes the newest event and the score is worked out again from what is left, for everyone watching.

Why it works this way

Why is a late goal 45+2 and not 47? Each half's minutes stop at its boundary and stoppage time is added on top. A first-half goal in added time can never be confused with an early second-half one.

Full time, 3-2

  1. Before kickoff

The two teams in their colours at 0-0, with the kickoff time if you announced one. Send the link now and the group is already there when the game starts.

  2. A goal goes in

Within a moment of your tap the ball strikes the scoring side's card and the number turns. Nobody watching has to refresh.

  3. Half time

The clock stops and the page says it is half time, so nobody wonders whether the score has stopped updating.

  4. A late winner

Every goal lands the same way, with the minute it went in. The clock runs on from 30 in the second half rather than starting again.

  5. Full time

The winning side is marked, the clock is gone, and the page becomes the result. The link keeps working for thirty days, or for good once the match is kept.

The whistle is yours

Half time and full time

Tap Finish first half → at the break and Start 2nd Half when play restarts. Nothing ends on its own: the clock only tells you when time is up, and your phone beeps and vibrates at the end of each half.

At full time the page offers the next step: share the result card, make a reel, or play again with the same teams. If the scores are level you can settle it on penalties.

Need to know

Questions people ask

About score a football match live.

Do I have to type the scorer's name?

No. The goal counts the moment you tap it. The name, and an assist once there is a name, are asked for afterwards, and tapping the next event passes over the question.

I tapped the wrong team. How do I fix it?

Tap Undo. It removes the newest event and the score is worked out again from what is left, for you and for everyone watching.

How does the match clock work?

It starts when you tap Start Match and runs from the minute the half began. Goals in stoppage time show as 45+2 rather than 47, so a late first-half goal is never mistaken for a second-half one.

Does the half end on its own?

No. Ending a half is always your tap. Once the clock runs well past time the button says so, and on the scorer page your phone beeps and vibrates when the half is up.

Can somebody else take over scoring?

Yes. Send them the scoring link and the password, separately, from the Settings tab. Everyone watching keeps the same link.
