How to score a cricket match live, ball by ball

Create the match with the two team names and the number of overs, choose who bats first after the toss, then tap one key per delivery: a dot, runs, a four, a six, a wicket, a wide or a no-ball. Overs, extras, strike and the chase are all worked out from those taps, and everyone following the link sees each ball as it happens.

Two minutes

Before the first ball

  1. Create the match

Open Create match, choose cricket and type the two team names. Pick T10, T20 or your own number of overs. Nobody needs to register, and no squad is needed.

  2. Send the link

Tap Send on WhatsApp on the Score tab, so the group is following before the first ball.

  3. Toss, then start

Tap Start 1st Innings and choose who bats first. The toss happens at the ground, so this is asked at the start of play and never when the match is created.

One tap per delivery

Ball by ball

Under Record delivery there is one key for every outcome: Dot ball, a single, two or three runs, Four, Six, Wicket, Wide and No-ball. One tap is the whole recording, and the score moves before anything else happens.

Everything else is worked out from those taps: runs, wickets, overs, extras, the run rate, each batter's and bowler's figures and, in the second innings, what the chase needs.

Tip

Byes or an overthrow changed ends in a way the runs do not show? Tap Swap strike before the next ball. Tapped the wrong key? Undo last takes back the newest delivery.

Why it works this way

Why are wides and no-balls not part of the six? They are not legal deliveries. Each adds one run and an extra, and the over carries on until six legal balls have been bowled.

Names are optional. Batters and bowlers are numbered until you tap a name in the console and set it, and every figure already recorded moves to that name.

You confirm, always

Innings break and result

When the overs run out, the tenth wicket falls or the target is passed, the console stops and asks. Tap Start 2nd Innings → and the chasing side's target is set to the first innings' runs plus one. In the chase, confirm the result the same way.

Nothing ends under your thumb: the page can tell the tenth wicket fell, but not whether that is what the players think happened. Stopping early is there too, under End innings early →.

At full time the page offers the next step: share the result card, make a reel, or play again with the same teams.

Need to know

Questions people ask

About score a cricket match live.

Do I need the players' names?

No. Batters and bowlers are numbered until you name them. Tap a name in the console at a calm moment to set it, and every figure is worked out from the balls already recorded.

Who is on strike?

Worked out for you: odd runs and the end of an over change ends. For byes or overthrows that rotate strike some other way, tap Swap strike before the next ball.

How are wides and no-balls counted?

Each adds one run to the total and an extra, and does not count as one of the over's six balls, so the over carries on.

What happens at the end of an innings?

When the overs run out, the tenth wicket falls or the target is passed, the console stops and asks you to confirm. Nothing changes under your thumb, and the chasing side's target is set for you.

I tapped the wrong key. How do I fix it?

Tap Undo last. It takes back the newest delivery and the score, overs and figures are worked out again from what is left.
